But at the same time protect yourself so they don't steal your idea?

First of all you need to copyright all documentation you wish to present and the easiest way to do this is simply to put copies in a sealed envelope first and post it to yourself. In it's simplest form this is simply absolute proof that the idea is yours. Make sure envelope remains sealed when you receive it and that a clear postmark date is visible on it, also get post office to date stamp seal.

You then need to target your game to the companies that specialise in the genre you're presenting. When you have contact details find out the name/s of the relevant development people before contacting the companies. It is imperative that you talk to the right people as you will probably only get one shot AND MAKE SURE there is nothing similar on the market already. If you have a mock up or model for your presentation it will be an advantage.

When you contact companies just try for an appointment. Try not to give too much away on the phone but try to convince them that it's a winner and it's different.

If you can run some tests with a trial group prior to approaching companies this will further help your cause.

Hope this helps and GOOD LUCK
