Downloading anything from practically anywhere can give you a virus. That is why there are so many virus preventing programs out there. Limewire is also not a very secure place so you probably already have one and don't know it or from the sounds of this question you do know it.

There is no problem with Limewire. It is not a breeding ground for virii, despite what "the shy is falling" people say. That is not to say you cannot get an infected file. You take a chance when you download executable files on a P2P network, so avoid them like the plague. Keep your virus scanner up-to-date. It should be operating any time you are on the internet, which is why most of them activate when the computer is turned on. An unprotected computer can be infected within minutes of going on the internet, and it has nothing to do with Limewire, it is just one of millions of sites out there.

I'm assuming your running Windows...
Limewire itself will not. Although the things you download on Limewire can. If you are searching for the latestest Eminem song, someone could have disguised the song as a virus, so when you download the song, you get the virus.
I would recommend getting a Mac. Macs are (currently) immune to viruses, so It dosn't matter what you download, you cannot get a virus.

What do YOU think? You download files from a total strangers PC what do you think you will get? You even know what the word "Peer" stands for? The above user states "keep your a/v protection running"...that aint gonna stop a file you are willing to download! Only internet illiterate people use them and probably dont even realize they are helping to spread the malware!

Yes, if you are not careful with ANY P2P software, you can get viruses. Just keep your A/V program on, and you should be warned if you try to download something with a virus in it.
