It turns out he was the drug dealer working with the girl who was in the drug center. She was stealing money from what she was selling and the cop thought it was the x-marine so he was going to his house to teach him a lesson and it all went wrong. He never planned to kill the wife just hit the husband on the head with his nightstick then stab him as a warning.
