Many professional dancers get their start by dancing for cruise ships. (Snowflake seems to be talking about ballroom dancers, which is a different area.) The attraction is the steady pay and being able to get free room and board. There isn't much information on how much dancers get paid, however I found an old article (pre-2004) that said "from $390 to $900 a week" for new dancers.

Stiletto Entertainment (a production company for cruise shows) has a nice web site with a lot of information.

As you will read, being able to carry a tune is a desired skill in such work.

Hope that helps.

Yes, you can make pretty good money. I'm not sure how much, that would depend on a cruise. But I'd consider it as more of a back-up plan for a dancer nearing his/her retirement. My "old" teachers decided to do that. I say my "old" teachers because I had to find new teachers after they left. Before they went on cruises, they won quite a few awards as competing Ballroom professional dancers. After some point, their competition results have stopped improving no matter how hard they tried. They reached pretty high World rankings, but after that they have hit a platoe. They were well in their 30s already. This is when they have decided to go on cruises because it was better money and more pleasant life then just countless dance lessons that they had to teach day in and day out, every evening, after they are done with their own practice. I know it doesn't give you a concrete answer, but at least it gives you some idea. The people I'm talking about definitely don't sing.
