I'm looking into getting a regular cell phone service (I currently just have a prepaid phone.) I like alltel's family plan with the my circle. I wanted to know if the reception is good in the Cleveland area especially on the East side. Does it really matter which phone you get to have better reception?

Alltel is about as solid as Verizon. They're both better than Cingular and Sprint and worlds better than T-Mobile's coverage. Different phones do make a difference. I'd read reviews on PhoneScoop http://www.phonescoop.com/carriers/carrier.php?c=7 (pick a phone, click on the reviews tab) and see what people have to say about the reception. I find Nokias usually excel at reception. Also phones that have an external antenna can be better too although that seems to have gone out of style these days.

typically reception for any carrier is good in a metro area... it is when you get out in the boondocks when it matters the phone and carrier. I have had verizon for 2 years now and have lived in NH, FL, NY and WI in that same timeframe... great reception all around (applause). I have the base model phone Nokia 6015i and have had no issues.

I did have AT&T in NH for 4 years with no problem either with a Nokia 5165 (until bought out by cingular - then customer service went to sht). Sprint however, is ONLY good for metro areas... goes into analog ROAM when in the boonies.

I believe alltel is a good choice for the cleveland area as their corporate offices are there and thus should have similar coverage for prepaid or "regular" plans.

hope this helps.

i grow to be gonna edit yet i grow to be suspended by skill of the time i presumed-approximately what else I had to assert. uncertain what section you reside in yet truly Verizon owns Alltel now yet they run it as Alltel in some places because of the contract with the FCC whilst they bought it. Verizon bought Alltel yet in some aspects like in mine the place all we've got is Alltel and Verizon, Verizon isn't allowed to take it over. So remarkable now Verizon runs Alltel as Alltel till they are able to looking somebody else to purchase it.
