It tells me that in order to open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system.

I don't want to have to waste my time restarting the system.
Can anybody here tell me how to close the existing Firefox instead?

Go into task manager, flip to processes, and end firefox.exe

run the following two menus of ccleaner
cleaner > Analyze > Run Cleaner
Issues > Scan For Issues > Fix Selected Issues
