yes if you want to operate for a long time and this prolong battery life as you are not overcharge but be careful as you will lose all data if suddenly there is a current loss so its wise to save frequently.

As far as i know the laptop wont run without the battery in, though it may depend on the laptop, there may be some that will do it. I have an old compac and it wont run without the battery in, something about the connections.

ACTUALLY IT WILL BUT ITS NOT ADVISABLE. Its sort of a trouble shooting thing but not for long run. Even if you have a dead battery just put it in because in some laptop architectures the battery is a surge protection device
