Ever seen those zombie people on TV? They have bruises on them with purple or violet skin. I really don't understand why they chose the colour purple. I got a bruise last week, it was also purple, so I think that kind of relates, in a way. Thank You! ^_^

you know it could be one of those too... or it could be the obvious fact taht blood without oxygen is blue, and it would take soem time for all the oxygen to disipate from the blood. blue and red mix to create a purple color so the blood with less oxygen would cause a purpleish tint that would fade to blue over time. the reason it would occur is because, theoretically, the zombies would not take in more oxygen nor would they use it post mortem and so the remaining gas would have to seep out naturally.

when a person dies, the pooling of blood in the "down " side, or the parts/sections of the body next to what they're laying on is called post-mortum lividity...and is a dark purplish color. The rest of the skin takes on a waxy bluish tint, as the blood that is left begins to lose it's oxygen content and coagulates, or thicken and clot. As movies have become more graphic in what is shown on screen, so has the special effects artists tried to be more realistic in their makeup and depictions.
If there were walking dead, it would look very much like what you're describing, for the reasons I have explained, and unfortunatly, as a former firefighter/emt, I've seen my share of the departed.

I'm sure that's part of it. After a body dies, the blood pools in the low lying areas leaving purplish bruises.
