Liberal Hero? Wow, that's quite a step. Socialist, yes. And you do know liberal is not a type of person, correct? It's a political standpoint? You are aware, correct? Because you capitalize the word liberal which means it is a proper noun, making it a person, place, or thing. Which it is not. Making a generalized statements such as "liberals are this" or "liberals do this or that" (such as found in your previous posts and rants) is as incorrect as your obvious views on foreign policy. Liberals cannot do anything, or be anything.
My good man, master the English language. There are thousands of books written on it. I will send you one for free if you leave me an address.
Master the English language, then do a re-read on world history, and American Governance. Then come back with correctly worded statements, and perhaps you will sound like less of an uneducated boob than you are.
Until then, how could anyone, whether from a liberal or conservative viewpoint, get behind what you say?

To whom is he a hero? Which liberals? He is a Socialist and an opportunist, but a liberal hero?
You were surprised to see answers attacking Bush, yet your question inlcluded a clause that was completely unnecessary, except for its inflammatory nature. Do you already have a "right" answer in mind?
Chavez is attempting to create a bi-polar hemisphere (good luck). He has been positioning himself through his "Bolivarian Revolution" as an alternative to US preeminance. This is what made Peru's elections this spring so fascinating. In Bolivia, Chavez was able to frame the debate as American interference in sovereign states, in Peru the dynamics were different. Chavez's candidate actually lost votes due to Chavez's support. He was seen as the meddling power, more so than the US.
It will be interesting to watch South America in the next few years. If the price of oil drops precipitously, Chavez's reforms will go bankrupt.

Well of course! He is trying to nationalize public services. He is separating the country from democratic powers. People in venezuala are nervous because of his socialist views. History has shown what too much power can do to a government and a leader. Although gas is the lowest in the world 12 cents a gallon. I think its to gain trust among his own ppl. And Chavez is not a Hero!

After this new "enabling act" charade, he is now a bonafide authoritarian "el presidente". Pretty soon the rest of the civilized world will come around. We will start to hear "stories". At the UN everyone thought he was a joke (except Nicaragua and Cuba-"Cooba").

He's forcing government ownership on several industries, asked the legislature for the ability to rule by decree, and also to stay in office indefinitely after his term is up.

I think the answer to your question is an unqualified "yes".

Your question is a few years late, he has been the head of a dictatorship. He controls the media, and shut down the one station that was critical of him, he aligns himself with other dictators, he is nationalizing the country's resources and utilities, and spews hateful rhetoric. The horse is out of the proverbial barn, my friend

It's his country to run as he sees fit. I believe the same applies to the president of the United States. One is no better than the other.
