Should the Federal Governments influence and control over State and local issues be lessened. Woudl this make us safer?

If we had a catastrophic event somewhere, lets say New Orleans, and the influence of the Federal Government was much more restricted, would it make it easier to manage rather than tryign to decide which agency from which level of government it falls into the hands of?

No.

This is already well established. It is primarily the responsibility of the local government first. Then the state, then the feds. There is no ambiguity. Its just that in that case the local and state authorities shirked their responsibilities and sat back waiting for Uncle Sam to do it all.

No mention of the years of predictions. No mention of the years of funds for maintenance and improvement of the dikes, and civil infrastructure which is meant to deal with such a disaster.

The only thing that was mentioned was that Bush should have been there doing everything.

There is no bureaucracy that is fit to deal with such a large scale disaster. That's why it is the responsibility of first the people themselves, then the local authorities then the state, then the federal, and lastly the world community.

My goodness almighty as bad of a job the government did at Katrina and still doing I hope they never rule over the states. This would no longer resemble America it would be the Civil War all over again? They need to stay in their place and we should revise the Patriot Act, like take it away completely and force the government to obey the Constitution or we will leave the statehood one by one. I hope not but I see it coming if they try to enforce those fascist laws upon our free nation. Believe that if you believe anything we the people will not roll over for that New World Order crap ever again.

there is no longer any need for the federal government. it has long ago become a tyrant instead of a steward of our freedoms. our constitution itself recognized the eventuality of this fact and made provision as best it could for the day when this would be evident to the people. we live in a transitional time between the sleeping suckling sheeple and the awakened shackled cattle. it will be too late by the time enough people realize what has become our endless fate. 1984 is coming, 2020 style.

asking what would make us safer is exactly the wrong question.

it took local failure to make the FEMA response worse

look at NYC after 9-11.....did not see all that local heroics after Katrina by the locals.........the local government failed to move the buses to higher ground........no security at the Superdome......
that was not Federal failure

You can only assist people well if they know what they need and are responsible administrators.....with plans
