You hit hit all the books I love! I loved the Eragon/Eldest, Magyk/Flyte, &Pendragon!
I also loved the Last Apprentice series (If you are not afraid or grossed out! LOL!) and the maximum ride series, The sea of trolls, The Scorpion house (has almost nothing to do with Scorpions!),Don't look behind you, Bright Shadow.
And a lot more I CAN'T think of! (Amazing I can't remember!)
Sorry!
I hoped I helped at least a little.

I adore Harry. Really I can't think of a single series that rivals Potter. I love the Anne of Green Gables series, still not a rival. I love the Pendragon series and the Garth Nix 7 keys series, but both are just placeholders until Deathly Hallows comes out.

There is something special about Harry Potter, as far as I can see. I read Harry Potter books first and then since I was such a big fan,and impatient waiting for more of JK Rowlings books to come out, that I tried to read some of the others you mentioned, and I just couldn't get into them. There is something about Harry that makes him very easy for most readers to relate to.
I think everyone has something in common with Harry in some way or another, whether you are a boy or a girl.

Don't forget the Abhorsen series by Garth Nix. Also, Twilight and New Moon (my personal favorites). I didn't really like Gatekeepers, but I would definitely agree with Eragon and Eldest.
OH! I almost forgot. Anything by Tamora Pierce is just as good, if not better, then Harry Potter.

Harry Potter is totally out of any competition as far as I am concerned, but I also loved:
- "The Banned and the Banished"-Series by James Clemens. Great Fantasy, awesome storyline, and the last and final twist (making the books even better) is in the very last sentence!
- "The Black Magician Trilogy" by Trudi Canavan. I just couldnt put them down, and the ending is very daring...
- "Kushiels Legacy" Trilogy by Jacqueline Carey. Fantasy set in an alternate Renaissance Europe, written in truly exquisite English, but dont read if you mind sexual content.

There are many well written books as good as Harry Potter. It just got more publicity.
Artemis Fowl book series by Eoin Colfer is about teen age criminal mastermind Artemis Fowl who even plots to steal the gold from the fairies.
Dragonjousters book series(joust, alta, sanctuary,Aerie) by Mercedes Lackey. The setting is ancient Egypt.Hunger, anger, and hatred are constants for young Vetch, rendered a brutally mistreated and overworked serf by the Tian conquest of his homeland. But everything improves when a Tian jouster requisitions Vetch to become the first serf ever to be a dragon boy. His training is intense, and his duty clear-cut: to tend his jouster, Ari, and his dragon, Kashet. That is only the beginning. The rest of the books are about how he gets a dragon of his own,his escape to Alta, how the war between the two kingdoms is stopped etc.
Mercedes Lackey's Take a Thief is the tale of Skif, a young orphan reminiscent of Oliver Twist, making his way in the knock-and-tumble neighborhood between two of Haven's outermost walls. Skif is intelligent, good-hearted and creative enough to forage up three meals a day in a place where food is scarce and kindness almost unheard of. After a chain of events leave him homeless, Skif lands in the lair of Bazie, an Faginish ex-mercenary who trains thieves...until he is "Chosen" by one of Valdemar's magical horses and becomes a Herald serving the Queen.

How about the Chronicles of Narnia by C.S Lewis?
It has almost the same theme...Kids fighting for freedom when adults turn blind to truth. If I remember correctly, the eldest brother actually forgets about Narnia as he turns older, just like Muggles who do not believe in anything outside their defination of "normal".
