Well, it is a saying. Sure, no one is perfect, but hasn't one person ever thought about being perfect? Practice makes a better purpose and a better you. Practice helps you reach that goal "perfect" although you can never reach it. Don't think of practicing a competition or a "have to do" thing, think of it as a fun challenge to try and reach the goal "perfect". At times, you may be perfect: for example: at a video game. You can get every thing in a video game and be done, in that instance, you are perfect. But in the general perspective of life, nothing and no-one are perfect.

That saying refers to a specific task. Typing for example... Practice makes perfect. The more I practice, the better I get. The more I practice, the closer to perfection I can become (never mistype a keystroke).
