Symbiosis

You were innocent and undemanding;
I was nonexistent.
Yet now you can’t even go through the day
Without wanting something;
Wanting something that will only increase
Your desire to expand your manufactured greed.

Every materialistic possession expands your thirst.
Voracity consumes your life.
You receive an indescribable sensation every time you
Attain new bits and pieces
Thinking that these objects will
Solve your problems.

Where else can money go but in the hands of the seller.
Brainwashed to purchase everything
You’re told to buy.
Everyday images of broadcasted products
Recycle through your mind.
I create those same images.

We have a unique relationship:
You, the infinitely hungry shopper;
I, the unsympathetic, commercialized media.

This does **not** belong in Men's Health. Take it over to the Arts section under Literature.

A very beautiful description of American society. My grown sons feel the same way...we have this discussion often. It's the reason they won't shop at Walmart. I don't know how to solve the situation you describe so well, except on an individual level. If enough individuals feel this way...it will change.
