when they are older they need more than just algae-they mostly eat that as babies. veggies are good and dont worry about making sure it sits on the bottom when the lights go out he will go up to the top to eat the food. i have heard that they sell little holders in pet stores for veggie slices if you dont want it just floating around but i have never seen any. mine eats cucumber, broccoli steams, and carrots as long as it is left in the tank for a day or two. also he will eat any kind of plant i try to grow so i have given up on that.

They will eat anything, but do need to have some vegetable matter in the diet. Algae wafers are the most convenient, but greens and zucchini are good, too, but should be blanched (boiled for a few minutes, the put in cold water to stop the cooking - this softenes them so they don't have to sit in the tank for days). Feed just before lights-out as they are nocturnal, otherwise the other fish will get most of the food. Take any uneaten veggies out in the morning.

Some like a bit of driftwood in the tank, too. They will scrape the surface of the wood and it will provide a hiding place for them.

relies upon on the species of pleco you're talking approximately, however i like to make helpful I consistently use an omnivorous nutrition recurring for all, and tweak it one way or yet another reckoning on strategies of the guy species. For a vegetable element, a number of human beings coated it...merely verify out malialeilani's answer. For a meaty element, attempt products of shrimp, frozen/thawed bloodworms, stay blackworms, and so on. yet another trick i like to apply, extraordinarily with wild-caught plecos, is that this: -take a severe-high quality flake nutrition, and grind it to a powder -combination with slightly egg white -paint onto a gentle rock, tile, or different such floor -permit dry thoroughly -set it interior the tank, and permit him relish it!
