now the main goal is to isolate B by itself

9(B-4) -7B = 5(3B-2)

step 1: distribute
9B-36-7b = 15B-10

step 2: combine like terms
2B-36=15B-10

from here on, your steps may vary

step 3: subtract 2b from both sides
-36=13B-10

step 4: add 10 to both sides
-26=13B

step 5: divide both sides by 13
B = -2

9(b - 4) - 7b = 5(3b -2)

First distribute both the 9 and the 5. (Make sure you distribute to both terms in the parentheses).
9b - 36 -7b = 15b -10

Second collect all like terms on the left side and the right side. Pay attention to your signs and make sure you add and subtract correctly.
2b - 36 = 15b -10

Third collect your variables on one side of the equation. I prefer positive coefficients so I'd move 2b by subtracting 2b from each side. DO NOT drop the negative sign from 36.
-36 = 13b -10

Fourth add ten to both sides to isolate your variable.
-26 = 13b

Then dividide both sides by 13.
-2 = b

And you should always check (expecially on tests and exams). Plug -2 back into the original equation and make sure both sides are equal.
9(b-4) -7b =5(3b -2)
9(-2-4)-7(-2) = 5(3(-2) -2)
9(-6) +14 = 5(-6 -2)
-54 +14 = 5(-8)
-40 = -40

9 (b-4) - 7b = 5 (3b-2)
9b - 36 - 7b = 15b - 10
2b - 36 = 15b - 10
-36 = 13b - 10
-26 = 13b
b = -2

9(b-4) -7b= 5(3b-2)

*** Note- do all the () first

First multiply 9 to (b-4)
Your answer should be 9b-36

Next multiply 5 to (3b-2)
Your answer should be 15b-10

So your new equation should be:
9b-36-7b= 15b-10

Next, combine like terms 9b-7b= 2b

2b-36=15b-10 <-- this should be your new equation

Next add like terms (move like terms)

So subtract 2b from each side, your new equation should be -36 =13b-10

Next add -10 to both sides, your new equation should be -26=13b

Then you divide 13 from both sides and then you will get the answer of -2

-2

Solution:
9(b-4) - 7b = 5(3b-2)
9b - 36 -7b = 15b - 10 (multiply the brackets out)
so 9b -7b -36 = 15b - 10
or 2b - 36 = 15b - 10 (now get b on one side)
10 - 36 = 15b - 2b
-26 = 13b
therefore b = -2

9 (b-4) - 7b= 5 (3b-2)
9b - 36-7b = 15b -10
2b -36 = 15b - 10
-13b - 36 = -10
-13b = 26
b = -2
