My guinea pig is losing his hair from his Hartz food, what do you recommend?

If your guinea is losing his hair it may not be from the food at all, it could be something totally different. I would suggest you take him down to the vet, just to make sure that it isn't something more serious then just his diet.

Kaytee/Nutriphase is good. Try to stay away from the "Fiesta" mixes - they'll pick and choose the pieces they like and not get their balanced diet. As my exotics vet told me, the plain, boring-looking guinea pig food is best!

Also... it is completely normal for guinea pigs to shed, so you may want to take that into consideration before blaming it on the food. But you know your pig best!

Good luck with your piggie.

Are you sure it isn't losing its hair because it has scurvy from lack of Vitamin C? You need to be giving him lots of fresh fruits & veggies in addition to his pellets. I use regular Nutriphase, doesn't have a lot of fatty colored bits in it and while it's not their favorite, they've learned to deal with it!
