Since your asking for opinion only, I like corns. They're a little less nippy from my experience. Which ever one you choose, make sure it's eating reliably if you get a young one. Hatchlings are difficult to get started eating and when stressed (as in moved from the pet store or breeder's to your house). May go for a long period before they eat (if ever). Also, if you have both available where you ae, ask to handle each so you can see what they are like as individuals.

Right now I own a Red Tailed Boa and a corn snake, at one time I had experience with a milk snake. My basic opinion is get which ever you think is more pleasing to look at. The corn snake I have is a baby, but it hasn't been accustomed to handling yet and it is very, very aggressive. But it is calming down. So much depends on how much time you put into the snake to get it used to handling. Everyone states how calm and docile corns are and that usually is the case, but you need to invest some time to get them that way. I personally would look for a corn, just because of the different interesting patterns that are out there.

All the corn snakes I have seen are very docile and easily move from person to person. Milk snakes are also docile but seem to latch on to one person and take a while for another human to warm up to it. The last corn snake I saw was at a lecture and the corn snake went to everyone that wanted to hold him from 4 year old to 70 year olds +. I would say in total the snake was handled, actually handed from one person to the other, by no less that 30 people... two young girls kept holding it after everyone settled back to the lecture, and nuzzled it with their chin and cheeks for about 30 minutes. Snake was really a super pet and I found it most appealing. It was also an "albino" corn snake and had a very unusual look about it almost like a corn snake with the color that looked like it was covered with wet white tissue paper, you could barely see the color through the whitish appearance.

I prefer corn snakes. I have owned both and the corns seem to be more docile. I also like how corns come in so many different colors. They are becoming a favorite amoung the herping community.

I have also been thinking about getting one of these two snakes for my nine-year-old boy who loves them.

Can either of these give you a bad bite if they want to and how painful would the bite be?

Milk snakes because they come in all colors and patterns.

Depends whether you like corn or milk best. Sorry, I just didn't want to miss out on this one.
But seriously, good luck on your search.
