You can legally start working at age 14. However, because you're minor, legally you can't have a full time job(US federal laws against child labor/child abuse by labor) and the max you can work is part-time hours, around 20 hours max. per week. I think also one of your parents/guardians needs to consent for the job.

The legal age is 16.. You may also look out for an option to work online to make extra cash in your spare time. I am a part time worker doing work online at home, so I would like to share a link where you can make $600-$1500 in a month working at home. The work need to be done is posting/answering a discussion and uploading any photo/image of your interest. For details visit

I will publish few more genuine site in couple of weeks, where you can earn money. You may also write to me at talkofmoney@rediffmail.com (Note: When u are planning for a home based online work, be careful because most of them are scam and ask you to pay initial money. never pay money to any such site.)

You have to be 16 in the state of North Carolina. Talk to your school counselor and she can explain the requirements.
In the meantime, try babysitting, walking dogs, taking care of pets when owners go out of town. Take neighbors trash out, wash cars. Just be careful about being in someone's house whether you know them or not to protect yourself.

Most states require you to be 15 or 16. Talk to your school's guidance counselor's office about your state. There are certain restrictions for minors and employment so make sure you and your prospective employer are aware of them. Your school may have job postings from local businesses interested in hiring teens for after school and weekend hours in offices, cleaning, restaurants, retail stores, inventory, shipping, etc. That will save you countless hours of filling out applications for no reason.
