many say that standardized testing is bad, because it can't really measure one's level of intelligence. why is it so bad? and is that the only reason why it's bad?

Because there are people who are smarter in other areas that aren't covered in the test. For example... a person could be incredibly intelligent when it comes to cars. They can figure out anything with them and fix them in no time, but you don't have those tests for standardized tests. Standardized tests only measure intelligence in English, History, Math and Science... not what everyone can be good at. It's a stupid test that won't mean anything years later because people won't remember anything that was on that test. It's a bad test because they tell people that they are either smart or stupid and it's unjust!

Standardized testing can be bad in that the teachers teach to the test...thus the students don't get a balanced education and may lack the development of critical thinking skills.

Not all people are great standardized test takers. Some really great, smart student totally freeze when they see a standardized test.
Who is to say that your feeling your best the say and time of the test. i had students puke on their test because they were so sick and the pressure is so great to be at school, no matter what.

Some studies have shown that the SAT and other standardized tests don't necessarily correlate with performance in college. A lot of people also don't like that a number can hold so much significance, especially if they are not good test-takers.

there has to be a way to measure if kids are learning but the problem is that what is taught & how it's taught is not standardized. some kids have top notch teachers w/all the necessary up-to-date materials. oth kids are being "taught" by inexperienced, uncertified teachers using materials are very old. yet these kids are taking the same standardized tests.
