First DVD was a gift, too. The Princess Diaries! That one was all mine. First family DVD was Shreck, also a gift. Same night we got the DVD player.

One Christmas my oldest daughter bought me the DVD player. My youngest one bought me Richard Pryor's "That *******s Crazy"!

My first DVD was a box set from my best buddy from high school, The Star Trek: Next Generation Movie Collection, containing Generations, First Contact, and Insurrection. He gave it to me for Christmas 2003. We were visiting at my apartment, and at first I thought he had made a mistake, because I didn't own a DVD player yet. But then he said, "Hold on, I'll be back in a minute." And when he came back, wouldn't you know it, he had gotten me a DVD player too. Now I'm replacing all of my precorded VHS tapes with DVDs.

My first DVD was 13 Ghosts, the 1960 original directed by gimmick master William Castle. It was one of my favorite scarey flicks when I was growing up, and the DVD version presented the movie as it was originally shown, with a pair of Ghost Viewers that enabled you to see the ghosts in the black-and-white movie in color!
I bought the DVD before I bought my first player!

I don't own any DVDs, but the very first one that my family got was Star Wars: the Phantom Menace (I think). Back in 01.

My dad bought me the Blob on DVD because when I was younger it terrified me. He thought of it as a gag gift for my birthday.

Brokedown Palace.
I always used to borrow movies or let my family buy them. I think I found Brokedown Palace in the used section (previously viewed) at Blockbuster. It's a good movie.
