I'm looking for any information/opinions on the better places to live and visit. Also any suggestions on hotels/motels to stay at with a 1yr old would be apreciated!

Best schools are on the Kansas side, Johnson Co, particularly, we spend big bucks for our schools. I would suggest Olathe, although I live in Overland Park. Blue Springs on the Mo side is supposed to have a fairly good school system, too. STAY OUT of KC, Kansas, if you are looking for schools. Same for KC its self. School system "north of the river" is ok, too. Other than that, if commuting isn't too much of a problem, Lawrence has a good school system. That may be " long-term" for you, but the kids wind up in school faster than you would think. If commuting is an issue, the Metro bus system of KCMO is pretty fair, and the JO from Johnson county makes runs down town and is designed specifically for Olathe/OP commuters to make it to work during regular day time hours. If you work odd hours, a car is a must if you live in KS.

For visiting:

No decent suggestions for a 1 y/o. for hotels.

If you have a big budget stay at Crown Center. Lots of amenities.

Good luck.

Ok lets be serious, we are talking about Kansas City, not L.A., Chicago, or Houston. You will be ok, most so called bad areas are typically fine during the day. If you feel unsafe Kansas and Missouri both honor other states conceal and carry license if you have a chl. I went there this year and I am from S.A. Texas, I never felt threatened or really even the need to Carry every one was real nice and more than helpful. KC is definitely worth the visit.

Places to live... If you insist on living in Kansas City MO instead of the burbs then go to the KCPD web site http://www.KCPD.org and look at the crime maps and homicide reports. If crime is a factor you will want to avoid any areas with huge red splotches on them.

Also you may want to visit http://www.bestplaces.net to compare other areas close to Kansas City for cost of living, crime and schools.

If I can help you find a rental, or a home to buy check out my site http://www.turnkeyproperties.org
