You need to see a lawyer.Unfortunately if something were to happen to your husband his minor child would be entitled to benefits and ofcourse until his daughter reaches legal age his ex would be in control of her portion of benefits.

Could you be the reason why the ex is out for everything she can get . Did you guys meet at work and became friends and then lovers if that is the case then I can understand why she is the way she is.But if you two met after they split then I can understand why you want to protect yourself. You are in for a hard life with this man because of the baggage he brings with him. I no you love this man but sometimes love isn't enough to hold you together ex-specially when there is a kid and a ex that is involved .Remember your not just marring him but what goes along with him .

I would see a lawyer. He may need to write a will. Maybe you should get a prenup since you have some money. It might be a good idea for him to put his money in your name so his ex can't claim it. Talk to a lawyer. Good luck!

I'm not a lawyer, so my first bit of advice is obviously GET A LAWYER!!!

This is very important, especially in New York State, as only a lawyer is going to know all the ins and outs of how to protect your interests as regards to this money-grubbing ex-wife.

I'd make sure you both have updated wills.

I'd make sure that YOUR property remains in your name only, but have it willed to him in case of your death.

I'd make sure that he signs some kind of pre-nuptial agreement that in the event of *divorce*, he gets nothing (so as to keep it from aforementioned money-grubbing ex-wife), but I'm not sure if this type of agreement would have any legal teeth in NY.

SERIOUSLY: TALK IMMEDIATELY WITH A GOOD LAWYER AND PROTECT BOTH OF YOU!

Good luck!

Talk to your future hubby and see if he wouldn't mind a pre nup - just to protect you and your future children. His ex can't touch your money and things tho. I'd have the pre nup and a will just to be on the safe side. Congrats and good luck.
