ok,the desktop icon size depends on the resolution selected however it is possible to change the icon size following the below steps
:
1-right click on desktop
2-properties
3-settings
4-advanced
5-general
6- under general tab you will see display and the DPI setting tab
7-increasing DPI size will increase inicon size.

without changing the show decision to a minimum of something small (1024x768, or maybe 800x600) there is not any obtrusive way of achieving what you're after. Vist icons have a optimum length of 256 x 256 pixels, making them acceptable for top-DPI reflects. those extreme-decision icons enable for top seen high quality in record perspectives with large icons. This optimum length isn't required for icons used completely for menus, toolbars, glyphs or small symbols, or the notification area.

One thing that you might try:
Right-Click on your Desktop > Properties > Settings > Advanced > General Tab > play with the DPI settings.
