WHY when i plug in any usb cord my computer just shuts off!?

I got an old computer windows 98 and alot of things are wrong with it it has parts from outher computers also and i was wonder why everytime i plug in a usb cord it just shuts off ! this is the system i got >>> microsoft windows 98 4.10.1998 does it not go just because my computer is old and no good any more or because something else

It is quite difficult to give exact answer however I guess the problem is power related.You see USB devices draw current from motherboard and if for any reason the required load can not be provided by the motherboard,every time you plug in any USB device the suystem is either shutdown or reset to protect itself,.

i have a hp all in one computer and when ever i try and plug a usb cord to a printer into it to setup it shuts everything down. I do have a keyboard and mouse that uses usb's and they r fine.

windows 98 doesnt have usb support by default, so many aftermarket drivers are writen almost all of them ive tryed fowled up the computer in some maner, uninstall the usb drivers you installed and try another

what are you trying to plug in as win 98 doesn't use usb2 this could be the problem if the item requires usb2 not usb1
