I have over 1GB of RAM, and I run WinXP. I rarely run more than 2 or 3 programs at a time, I defrag regularly, and I take good care of my machine. So why do my iTunes skip and my programs lag? Any advice?

What processor do you have? If you don't have any spyware or viruses and if your registry is clean (CCleaner) and your disk is defragged, it sounds like your CPU is too slow. But that seems unlikely if your system has 1GB of ram.

That's a known bug within the 7.x versions of iTunes. As far as that goes, not running two applications that need to use the sound card at the same time may remedy the problem and it may not. You may have to seek out another media player until Apple fixes the issue (or try updating to the latest version if you haven't already).
No idea on the programs lagging, any number of things could cause that.

You have a virus on your computer probably. Either that or your CPU is not up-to-date, or those 2-3 programs your running take up alot of CPU usage.

It could be because you might have filled the computer with programs... You can go to my computer and just hold your mouse over the harddrive and it shows total capacity and free space, you might take some things off and it speed the pc up

Is your virtual memory set to what it should be? Also run CCleaner and spybot.
