It depends on what state you live in - ballot access laws are different from state to state.

In general, though, if the party doesn't have automatic ballot access (usually by having achieved a certain percentage of the vote in statewide elections or voter registration), then each candidate have to get a certain number of signatures to be listed on the ballot.
