I have heard of submission and domination fantasies which I think are okay, but I find rape fantasies a little disturbing. What I found even more baffaling was that majority of these fantasies are by rape victums. Why? What woman would want to relive their rape? Does anyone know about these types of fantasies and the women who have them?

I have never heard of such a thing and would be interested to know where you got this information. I have had two friends who were raped (that I know of) one by a boyfriend, one by a stranger who killed the next woman he raped. I can not imagine nor was ever told by either woman that she herself or any women in their support groups have sexual fantasies about being raped again. Could you please share where you got this information from?

THE VILLAGE VOICE link only talks about rape fantasies of women who have not been raped. I want to know where the information about women who have ACTUALLY been raped have rape fantasies.
READ the ENTIRE question... no one is disputing that some women and some men have rape fantasies. Like myatuk, I would also like to know where this person got, "the majority of people having rape fantasies are rape victims". I have not been able to find anything online or in the literature about this statement.

and btw, Serin some men prefer to be the submissive one and have rape fantasies where they are the one being ravished either by a woman or a man. All people have different levels of aggressiveness, and you are wrong about nature... males must attract and court females.. I don't know what sort of fantasy literature you are reading, but you need to get outside or watch the nature channel more often... or get some therapy to help you with your misogenistic tendencies.

dedum is right, none of the refered articles mention that an actual rape victim has rape fantasies after being raped in reality. Unless you are talking about victims of child sexual abuse. But nothing about adult women and men who have been the victim of an adult on adult rape.
Here is what wiki said:
Regardless, the presence of rape fantasies in a community or individual cannot be taken to imply that the fantasizers in reality condone rape, desire to rape others, or wish to be raped themselves. While actual rape is an act of control with sex being the chosen medium of that control, and by its nature exclusively an act of the rapist, rape fantasy is essentially sexual and indulged in from both the point of view of the rapist and, even more frequently, the victim. Despite the sexual appeal of rape fantasy, there is a substantial number of people who indulge primarily in the power play aspect of rape fantasy.

the key word here is fantasy, NOT actual rape. This part is about the ravishing fantasy, which is probably much closer to what people are actually thinking when they think rape fantasy. I would also like to know if the asker misread something (like the above) and mis-undrstood the content of whatever they were reading. A person may have had a rape/ravish fantasy before being raped, but I seriously doubt that a rape victim would ever feel that way.

Now, it is documented that victims of sexual abuse as children will later transfer it to a rape fantasy, but I what I want to know is where women or men who have suffered a rape as an adult will then have rape fantasies?
wiki quote about the later:
"It has been proposed that for some who have actually been sexually abused, rape fantasy may be a way to heal past wounds by exploring in a safe environment with a sense of control."
If the asker is asking about that, there is a book you can read. Dr. Michael J. Bader, author of "Arousal: The Secret Logic of Sexual Fantasies"

it is normal for some people to go through these feeling. you may have liked the additional attention you got after the rape and you just want that back so it may be just about sex and you wanting to in control when this happens next. or it could be symbloic for an older man taking control of your life that you like yet dislike the idea. or you could just need a boyfriend so you can work out your fantasy. you should see a therapist to help you sort this out and to deal with this.

It may be a subconscious way of regaining control. As disturbing as it may seem, in a "fantasy" the person fantasizing can control what happens, control their emotions, and the feelings of fear and pain are no longer there. It may be a way of coming to terms with what happened, and somehow "making it okay," (not making the rape "okay", but making it easier for them to deal with it). This is not to say that it's healthy, but these are some reasons for why it may happen.

Twisted...

Have you ever had a nightmare and actively attempted to have it again so you could lucidly control the outcome?

Based on the statistics that most women who are raped are raped by someone they know, perhaps reliving the rape (or fantasizing) is a way to reconcile the experience into a version that has a shred of love, or even care for the victim, so it isn't purely exploitive.

They do exist. On top of the link provided by the helpful person above, I've read a couple articles and short stories where the topic is discussed.

As near as I can figure, a rape fantasy is an extreme return to nature. Most male mammals don't seduce; they dominate and control, and the female is simply overpowered and submits. However, modern society constantly shrieks this idiotic concept that men and women are inherently "equal" to each other, meaning absolutely no differences besides the plumbing. Think of what kind of tremendous cognitive dissonance that must cause in some women; they want to be submissive, either in bed or in real life, but they're constantly told they're sick and demented.

A pathology like fantasizing about being raped is just a natural outgrowth of that confusion.

Some rape victims have rape fantasies, especially if rape was their first and/or primary introduction to sexuality. However, this is no where near true of all (or even almost all) rape victims.

It explains it at Wikipedia. It is pretty much like other posters have said, to lessen the pain of the experience. You can also look it up at other psychology websites.
