The motherboard on my first computer crashed along with the .mp3 file folder. I got a new computer and loaded the new version of iTunes. My friend shared with me some of his music files. So now I have 20GIG of his music and about 3.2GIG of my music I want to add to the library. (I have a Nano) I want to upload the files from my iPOD into the new library i've created. I know there is a way to use the iPOD as a flash/jump drive, but in order to do so you have to erase the existing content. That would totally defeat the purpose of what I'm trying to accomplish.

Please Help! I don't want to lose the data on my iPOD!!!

You don't have to delete anything from your iPod to use it as an external drive to transfer files as long as you have enough free capacity (on a Nano, that could very well be an issue). However, you can't sync songs from your iPod back into iTunes unless they were purchased through the iTunes store. All other songs are encrypted, can't be recovered, and will be deleted the next time you sync your iPod.

To load basic computer files onto your iPod, go to My Computer, and there should be an entry under "Devices with Removable Media" that matches the name you gave your iPod. Open this folder and you can fill up the remaining capacity with any computer file that will fit, including music files (keep in mind that they won't be recognized as music files by the iPod, though). Switch to the other computer, and retrieve them (make sure you cut/paste or delete them after copying them from the iPod, or they will reduce the capacity that iTunes can utilize).
