Does it have an actual name? I always thought it's name was Sun like the Earth is called Earth and the Moon is called Moon, etc.

Its Greek name is Helios.

The Sun is the star at the center of the Solar System. The Earth and other matter (including other planets, asteroids, meteoroids, comets and dust) orbit the Sun, which by itself accounts for more than 99% of the solar system's mass. Energy from the Sun—in the form of insolation from sunlight—supports almost all life on Earth via photosynthesis, and drives the Earth's climate and weather.

The Sun is sometimes referred to by its Latin name Sol or by its Greek name Helios. Its astrological and astronomical symbol is a circle with a point at its center: . The ancient Greeks grouped the Sun together with the other celestial bodies which moved across the sky (in relation to the starfield), calling them all planets. This was before the acceptance of heliocentrism.

The first name recorded was Solaris, used by the ancient Chinese empires somewhere around 700-600 BC. Hundreds of years later, the Romans shortened the name to Sol based on the Roman god of the sun.
