Why do some clocks have to be re-wond and some don't?

I don't get it... serious answers only please!

Electric clocks do not need to be wound as they are motor driven. Weight driven clocks need to have the weights moved back to the top and do not need to be wound. Only those clocks which are spring driven need to be wound when the energy of the spring has been expended.
