WWE Smackdown! Opener:
We begin the show with a recap from last week's Beat the Clock Sprint Match between Undertaker and The Miz with the interference from Mr. Kennedy. We go to the opening vignettes of the show and then to the fist and the show comes to us from Little Rock Arkansas.
In the arena:
The music of Mr. Kennedy hits and he comes out to the ring looking very smug with himself. He reaches for the mic and yes, we know he won the Beat the Clock Sprint. He talks about how over the two weeks he was the one that came out on top. The crowd are chanting 'you suck' as this goes on. Kane couldn't beat the time, not Finlay, not Hardy etc could beat his time including the all powerful Undertaker..... Kennedy comments on how The Miz took Undertaker to the limit. Mr. Kennedy says 'stick it' to the crowd for thinking he may have interfered. He was protecting his best interests. He says that everyone in the crowd would do exactly the same. Kennedy promotes his first year where he beat 6 world champions including Batista and he is the next person who should wear the title around his waist... Teddy Long comes out much to Kennedy's disgust. Teddy Long reminds him that he won under controversial circumstances. So tonight he's going one on one with the Undertaker! Win, lose or draw Kennedy still gets a chance at the title but if Undertaker wins the title match is going to be a Triple Threat match! JBL declares his disgust at the whole happening.
Back on Smackdown:
Back from commercial and we have Maryse again in her own home we think welcoming us back to Smackdown.
Referee: Jim Korderas
Joey Mercury vs. Matt Hardy
We're then brought back to action as Matt Hardy makes his way to the ring. We get a recap of what happened at Armageddon again with Mercury getting his face busted open which WWE has used time and time again and then we get a recap of what happened last week with the interference from Mercury in Hardy's match against Finlay. We now see Mercury coming out looking all very Hannibal Lecter like with the face mask. A very good look actually. It certainly adds a whole new dimension to the heel character that he is.
The start:
The match starts with a big Hardy chant as they stare each other down before locking up against each other. It's an extended lockup before Mercury is forced into the corner and begs off of Hardy from hitting him. Hardy is distracted by the referee who is trying to get him to back off which gives Mercury the chance to blindside him! Hardy works on the face of Hardy. He's obviously inflicting revenge on Hardy here as JBL continues to blame the Hardyz for the whole incident at Armageddon.
Mid-match notes:
Hardy finally manages a comeback and Mercury runs into the corner protecting his face as Hardy works on his back with a number of blows. Another push away from the referee of Hardy and when he comes back in is met by an elbow from Mercury to the face! Clothesline from Hardy an a failed side effect which is broken by blows from Mercury who is then hit in the face by Hardy and backs out of the ring feeling his face. Hardy tries to drag him back in but is pulled out of the ring by Mercury who slams his head into the apron and the steel steps before throwing him back in the ring as we get another Hardy chant.
Mercury continues his assault on the face of Hardy both by hand and with a boot scraping across the face. This is more brawling from Mercury who takes the padding away from the bottom turnbuckle and drags the face of Hardy along the steel. He then chokes him with the tag rope. Hardy attempts a comeback as the crowd goes wild but Mercury regains control with another chinlock. That's broken by a jawbreaker from Hardy who goes straight for the Side Effect after some to and fro blows and gets the two count.
The Finish:
Hardy hits another Side Effect and an attempted pin before Hardy connect with an elbow to the back of the neck from the second rope! He tries for the Twist of Fate but Mercury breaks the hold and tries to set Hardy up for a powerbomb of sorts! Hardy flips Mercury off of his feet, goes for the Jackknife cover and this one is over!
Winner - Matt Hardy
The Aftermath:
Post match and all of a sudden Nitro appears and the two of them beatdown on Hardy. A heel kick by Nitro sends Hardy sprawling out of the ring where Melina has also made an appearance. Mercury and Nitro pull away the protective padding from the floor next to the ring and they deliver a snapshot onto the concrete as Melina looks on approvingly and the crowd boo loudly as officials run out from the back to attend to Hardy.
Back on Smackdown:
Back from commercial and we see a recap of the post match beat up on Hardy, the Snapshot and then Hardy being helped backstage by officials.
Backstage:
Backstage again and The Miz is talking to Layla and Ashley about how he took Undertaker to the limit as the crowd are laughing. Ashley and Layla can't quite believe what he's saying as we see Kane walk up behind Miz as the crowd cheers. The girls disappear as Miz looks very carefully behind him, sees Kane standing there and sheepishly wanders off. Kane gives and evil laugh and the camera fades to commercial.
Backstage:
Backstage again where Kristal walks up to Vickie's room to conduct an interview. Vickie needs to talk to Kristal about something very personal and they walk into her room leaving the cameraman waiting outside.
Referee: Charles Robinson
Brian Kendrick, Paul London and Vito vs.
William Regal, David Taylor and Montell Vontavious Porter
Back from commercial and we have Taylor and Regal already as MVP's intro music hits and he makes his way to the ring still wearing the bandages covering the burn from his Armageddon match as we get another video flashback of the burns happening. The editing department has had their money's worth recently. We then get the music of Vito as he prances around stage before calling out his partners, London and Kendrick who with Ashley appear on stage. London and Kendrick pull off their own face masks and with Vito rush to the ring where they go toe to toe with their opponents!
The start:
The heels are pushed from the ring as London is left with Regal in the ring and gains control with an arm drag before tagging in Vito. Regal is in control though very quickly and tags in MVP who goes to work on Vito and the nature of this match has changed already. Vito attempts a comeback and with a leg drop gains control but is then pushed into the opposite corner where he slaps at Regal and Taylor before turning and walking into a clothesline from MVP.
Mid-match notes:
The heels are in control now and Taylor almost mucks it by whipping Vito into the corner and then hitting the corner face first as Vito just manages to get out of the way. Vito can't make the tag though as Taylor manages to drag him back into his own corner and the heels are in control again. Some brutal beating by the heels as we get the obligatory shot of Ashley draped over the ring apron. The crowd tries to cheer on Vito as the heels continue to maintain their vicious assault on him. Finally Vito with a front jawbreaker on MVP just makes the tag to Kendrick who comes in and cleans house! Dropkicks, clotheslines abound as the crowd and Ashley go crazy for Kendrick!
The Finish:
Kendrick tries to pin MVP but it's broken up by Taylor London comes in over the top rope and takes out both Taylor and Regal with a crossbody before dropkicking Taylor out of the ring and going after him. Sadly this leaves Kendrick alone with Regal and MVP! Kendrick takes Regal and tries to hit Sliced Bread on him but is caught mid-air by MVP who was still the legal man in the ring. MVP powerslams Kendrick literally onto his head, makes the cover and this one is over!
Winners - David Taylor, William Regal and Montell Vontavious Porter
The Aftermath:
Post match and the heels celebrate their victory as Ashley looks on concerned. London and Ashley check on Kendrick as the heels celebrate up the rampway.
United States Championship Match
No Disqualification Match
Referee: Jim Korderas
Chavo Guerrero vs. Chris Benoit (c)
Back from commercial and Tony Chimel is in the ring announcing the match as the music of Benoit hits and he makes his way into the ring. The music of Chavo then hits and he makes his way alone to the ring to a chorus of boos from the crowd.
The start:
At the ring of the bell Benoit goes after Chavo who then badmouths Benoit before delivering a low blow to Benoit with the boot. Chavo kicks into Benoit before removing two turnbuckles from the corner. A side suplex from Chavo in between this and he then goes to ram Benoit into the steel turnbuckles but is stopped by Benoit who picks him up and drops him across the top rope. Benoit now with a neckbreaker before a German suplex.
Mid-match notes:
Chavo grabs the ropes to stop the second one from happening and then elbows Benoit before putting him into a backbreaker. That is broken by Benoit who goes for the Crippler Crossface! Chavo manages to get to edge of the ring and onto the floor but Benoit is straight after him locking in the Crossface again! Chavo manages to work free of it before Benoit locks it in properly and throws Benoit into the steel steps before going for a steel chair. Benoit manages to duck the blow from Chavo and rolls back into the ring. Chavo is right in after him with the chair but another attempted blow is ducked out of by Benoit who locks in the Crossface yet again! Chavo manages to break out it again by rolling out of it before elbowing Benoit and taking control yet again. A body slam by Chavo who is favouring his arm and again he goes for the chair. He tries to ram Benoit with it who ducks it yet again and takes Chavo down with a back body drop! Benoit goes for the chair and sets it up in the middle of the ring and then snap suplexes Chavo next to it! Benoit continues to rain blows on Chavo, chopping him into the corner. Benoit now tries to whip Chavo across the ring but it's reversed and Benoit runs head on into the corner with the exposed turnbuckles! Chavo now straight on the offensive as he grabs the chair and slams it into the back on Benoit and an almost near fall! The chair again is used on Benoit by Chavo who slams it into the shoulder of Benoit trying to get the Crossface out of action.
Chavo sets the chair up in the ring, stands on it and drops Benoit onto it with a shoulder breaker across the top of the chair! An attempted pin but only a two count before Benoit comes back again with chops and blows whilst favouring his injured arm. To the huge cheers from the crowd Benoit slingshots Chavo over the top rope before connecting with a baseball slide slamming Chavo into the barricades. Benoit takes Chavo to the steel steps before Chavo out of desperation grabs the belt and slams Benoit with it flattening him. Benoit is bleeding as Chavo grabs the chair and sets it in the middle of the ring before getting a chorus of boos by doing the Eddie shake and then going for the Three Amigos. He connects the second one onto the belt which is in the ring as well right onto the back of Benoit! He picks him up and gives him the third suplex onto the chair as Chavo exits the ring and climbs the ropes for the frogsplash. Off he goes and Benoit rolls out in the nick of time and Chavo connects with the chair instead! Both wrestlers are in pain on the canvas as Benoit attempts a pin. Benoit now with a snap suplex on Chavo onto the chair! He delivers a German suplex and then a snap suplex on Chavo onto the belt!
The Finish:
Another German suplex and Benoit climbs the top rope and goes for the flying headbutt only for Chavo to roll out of the way and Benoit rolls around the ring screaming in pain at his shoulder as Chavo goes for the chair and stalks Benoit! Benoit ducks the blow yet again and sweeps Chavo off of his feet and goes for the sharpshooter and finally locks it in. Chavo reaches for the chair but Benoit drags him away. Chavo reaches for the chair again but just can't do anything about it and finally is forced to tap out!
Winner and still United States Champion, Chris Benoit
The Aftermath:
Post match Chris Benoit favours his arm before showing off his belt to the crowed as the referee checks on Chavo and Benoit looks at him with a mean expression on his face before showing off his belt to the crowd again as we head backstage. Kristal is there obviously finished with her personal conversation with Vickie and showing no concern about it as she interviews Batista to a huge pop from the crowd. Batista tells Kristal he's going to be ringside at the main event as he stares off into the distance and we go to commercial.
Backstage:
Back from commercial and a view on the arena at Little Rock from the outside as we go back in backstage and see Mr. Kennedy talking with an underdressed Jillian Hall. They're bagging Teddy Long. Jillian suggests he go straight into see Teddy Long and confront him about being unfair in his setting up the match against Undertaker tonight and in general.
Referee: Chris Kay
Duece and Domino vs. Unkowns
Back to action and what we have we here? A new tag team? Do my eyes deceive me? Deuce and Domino with Cherry who come out in a red Cadillac. They make their way into the ring where they will be facing two unknowns. The gimmick is a throwback from Grease and the 50's with Cherry wearing a set of rollerskates. An interesting ring entrance as they flip Cherry from the apron into the ring. The microphone is in the hand and we have Mr. crack them in the mouth Deuce and Mr. untouchable himself, Domino. Of course there is Cherry as well who is Domino's baby sister and Deuce's girlfriend. Am I going to be able to keep up with this? Lets see how we go... Not much of a crowd reaction as yet but lets see how they settle into the mix.
The start:
Deuce and Domino jump the jobbers and the match starts with Domino taking it to Jobber 1. There is a nice move where the referee is distracted and Deuce hanging off the ropes gets Jobber 1 in a scissor lock whilst Domino yanks him back onto the canvas.
The Finish:
Deuce continues the assault but misses an elbow block but Jobber 1 can't take advantage and it knocked down and Jobber 2 is kicked off the apron. Domino is tagged in and holds the head of Jobber 1 in sitting position as Deuce comes off the ropes and kicks him straight in the face! Domino makes the pin and this one is already done.
Winners - Duece and Domino
The Aftermath:
Post match Deuce and Domino with Cherry celebrate the win as we get a replay of their finisher before watching them head back up the rampway.
Backstage:
Backstage Teddy Long and Mr. Kennedy are together with Mr. Kennedy telling Teddy that he's disrespectful. Teddy disagrees and tell him to get out of his office with that attitude. Mr. Kennedy continues arguing about Teddy setting him up with his match tonight. Teddy tells Mr. Kennedy that the match tonight is still on, regardless and tells Mr. Kennedy perhaps he should be thinking about getting ready for it as Mr. Kennedy wanders off and we go to commercial.
Back on Smackdown:
Back from commercial and once again another Maryse moment, seductive music and all.
Referee: Charles Robinson
Kane vs. Mike Mizanin
Back to reality and the music of Kane hits and he makes his way to the ring. He looks over the crowd as the music of The Miz hits and he comes out very slowly towards the ring looking very apprehensive. He slowly enters the ring staring at Kane all the time but stays in the corner as the referee asks for the bell.
The start:
Kane goes straight for the prancing Miz who ducks a blow and gets Kane into the corner and offloads with punches and kicks which Kane totally no sells before an uppercut to the face sends Miz flying. Kane stomps at Miz and then chokes him against the canvas and chases the referee away. Miz is whipped across the ring but ducks under a Kane blow and kicks at his leg a couple of times before attempting a crossbody from the ropes where Kane just catches him.
Mid-match notes:
A backbreaker by Kane. Kane works on the back on Mix in the corner and Miz is being squashed here. Miz is hung up on the ropes and Kane uses his boot to choke him. Miz falls to the apron but Kane helps him up and throws him into the ring. Kane now with another uppercut. He whips Miz viciously into the corner and then stomps on him again and again, and again. A backbreaker again by Kane. A bearhug now by Kane before ramming him into the corner.
The Finish:
Kane then sits Miz up onto the top rope but Miz manages a few blows in! Miz pushes Kane into the centre of the ring before trying a leap from the second rope only to be met by the boot of Kane to the chest just stopping Miz in his tracks! The crowd loved that one! Kane climbs onto the top rope and delivers a clothesline before going for the chokeslam which the crowd cheer for and Miz is down for the count!
Winner - Kane
The Aftermath:
Post match and Kane stands over a spreadeagled Miz whilst his pyros come off and we get a replay of the chokeslam and the pin again. Kane on the rampway laughs as we go to a commercial.
Backstage:
Back from commercial and we get a RAW Rebound before we're backstage again and Teddy Long is talking to Kristal who has some idea she'd like to talk to him about. Teddy Long looks very stern in her presence. Kristal comments on his tie before wandering off. Teddy Long turns around and there behind him are King Booker and Sharmell. He tells Teddy that he never received his rematch. Booker is resilient however and he is going to win the Royal Rumble. Teddy tells him he hopes he wins it and then announces a 6 man over the top rope challenge match next week as a warm up. Booker doesn't mind that idea and says he's going to win the Rumble again before we go to a JBL and Cole discussion about what JBL thinks is wrong of Teddy's treatment of Mr. Kennedy and Booker. We then get a Royal Rumble match preview.
In the arena:
The music of Batista then hits and dressed in a suit he makes his way out onto stage to a huge pop from the crowd as he warms up the audience before his pyros hit and he makes his way down to the ring. He shows off his belt to the crowed as we go to commercial.
Referee: Nick Patrick
Mr. Kennedy vs. The Undertaker
Back from commercial and Batista is at ringside as Mr. Kennedy makes his way to the ring again. Mr. Kennedy stares down Batista and mouths off at him before we get another replay of the Undertaker/Miz match from last week. We're then given the gong and the crowd pop loudly as Undertaker makes his way to the ring whilst Kennedy slides out the ring waiting for Undertaker to go through his paces before entering the ring again.
The start:
The match begins with Mr. Kennedy ducking a blow from the Undertaker and getting him into a headlock. Undertaker breaks that hold quite easily and goes to work on Kennedy with a kick to the head. He follows up with a snapmare and an elbow drop before working on his arm and then going old school. A facebuster by Undertaker and an attempted pin. Undertaker is showing all the offense as he whips Kennedy into the corner but is met by a boot to the face as he charges in.
Mid-match notes:
Kennedy with a clothesline on Undertaker knocks him down and he goes for the pin. Undertaker gets back to his feet and absorbs the blows of Kennedy before fighting back. He whips Kennedy into the ropes and then telegraphs a back body drop which allows Kennedy to kick him in the chest! Undertaker no sells the move and stands upright with a shocked looking Kennedy against the ropes! Undertaker throws Kennedy over the ropes and into the announcers table where Kennedy backs off from Batista there but walks into a kick to the head from Undertaker and a blow to the kidneys before being thrown back into the ring. Undertaker looks at Batista before reentering the ring as we go to commercial. Back from commercial and Undertaker is continuing his assault on him. He slams his head into the turnbuckle before attempting a superplex which Kennedy fights out of. A headbutt from Kennedy knocks Undertaker to the canvas flat on his back. Kennedy looks to climb the ropes but Undertaker just sits up! Kennedy is knocked off the ropes and onto the floor! Undertaker follows him out and slams his head onto the barricades before throwing him back in and continuing the assault with a big knee to the head of Kennedy in the corner! Undertaker backs off but as he comes back in again towards him is met by a dropkick to the knee and Undertaker in down on the canvas and in the corner clutching at the injured knee.
Kennedy stalks him and goes to work on the knee of Undertaker working the advantage he has gained. Undertaker breaks a scissor lock from Kennedy before beating on the head of Kennedy with his leg before Kennedy staggers up against the ropes. Undertaker puts him over the top rope with a kick to the head! Undertaker tries to whip Mr. Kennedy into the steel steps but it's reversed and Undertaker slams into them knee first! Undertaker reenters the ring to break the count before trying to jump onto Undertaker from the apron. He's caught in mid air and rammed back first into the steel ring post! a guillotine leg drop against the apron after a blow to the head. Both mean are back in the ring and an attempted pin by Undertaker! An attempted Last Ride is foiled by Kennedy drops out behind him before taking out the knee of Undertaker again. An attempted pin but a two count only. Kennedy on the offensive tries to beat up on Undertaker but is caught with the hand around the neck! He breaks out of the attempted choke hold but Undertaker is now in control as he whips Kennedy into the corner and then picks him up, we get the Snake eyes and then the boot to the face! Kennedy decides he's had enough here.
The Finish:
Kennedy is clotheslined over the top rope into the announcers' table and then out of nowhere gives Batista a cheap shot to the head sending him flying before rolling back into the ring where Undertaker is stalking him, waiting to plant the choke slam! He can't do it however as Batista enters the ring and spears Kennedy as the referee call for the bell
Winner by disqualification, Mr. Kennedy
