I work at a CD store. Music World, to be exact. I'm worried about showing up under-dressed, but also, since it is a music store, I'm worried about being over-dressed. What should I wear? I want to make a good impression, but I don't want to look like I'm trying too hard... Even if I am. :P

I would try some black pants, and a funky little black t-shirt - possibly a musical one. You have to dress for what you do. It would be silly to turn up in a three piece suit, as a cd store is usually quite a hip place. Go easy on the make-up and wear your hair in a messy bun or a high ponytail.
I would not wear jeans, unless you are told you are allowed to.

If its a music store i assume that you have been there before on a fairly regular basis. My advice would be to notice what other people are wearing and go from there. If your still confused, wear either black or tan pants (not jeans) and a collard shirt (maybe a polo shirt) and try not to wear sneakers. And as good as this advice may be, I would still say your best bet is to ask your supervisor. There may or may not be a dress code for your store. Good luck on your first day!!!!

did you notice whether the staff wore jeans? either way you can get away with a neat pair of black jeans and any top (maybe keep it simple) and keep accessories simple for your first day until you get the code. as long as your hair isn't insane it should be fine in any style. if you don't have black jeans i would say in a cd store you would get away with any trousers as long as they are neat and not frayed or too baggy.
there's nothing to stop you phoning the manager to ask is there a dress code because you forgot to ask. i always ask when starting a job. good luck!

Cos you're workin at a music store you should be semi-formal.Try wearing dark denims with a long sleeve shirt(preferably black/white).I am sure this will make you look good.Best of luck!

Some formal, like black pants with a white t-shirt or white top and it would look better if you had collars on it. Good Luck.

try to dress relaxed and laid-back on the first day. then see what other people are wearing, and just take it from there!

a pair of black pants and a cool shirt or blouse and not-too-overdone accessories (ie:earrings, belt, bangles/cuff bracelet,etc)...and a pair of low heeled boots(not too high because you are on your feet all day) Good luck!
