I believe the minimum age for official employment in the USA is 14 years of age not depending on which state you live in. If you are 14 or 15 there may be child employment papers you need to fill out and get signed by your parents and school if you attend a public or private school; if you're home schooled you need no such signature.
I believe at this age you'll just have to stick to babysitting and all the usual stuff like that. There's got to be plenty of chores around the house or chores the neighbors might need done that you could do but I think that's about it. Maybe you could put out a flyer at a local elderly housing area for some small chores around residences but as for a legal job with a company I don't think you can work just yet.

I totally understand your situation but there are laws that protect minors from certain types of employment. In order to get employment in any type of non-family business, you must be of legal age in your state and have a work permit. However, if you can get your parents on board to set up a business, they can hire you and get sweet tax credits. Your local library has a number of very good books that can give you the motivation and knowledge to proceed. Once you show your folks that you're serious and there's money in it for them, they will certainly back you in using your skills and passions for financial gain. Get to the library and ask about such books as "Better than a Lemonade Stand" and "Fast Cash for Kids." My library has at least 12 titles along those lines. You will want to devote time and energy to making up a business plan but it'll pay in the long run, far more than you can make working for someone else. Whether you choose to run a story hour for kids on weekends or sell cosmetics to teens or write a newsletter, you're never too young to make money while providing a valuable product or service to those who need it.

Babysit! Babysit! Babysit! Thats what I did and am still doing and I'm in college! Find out if any of your friends babysit and ask them to introduce you to thier employers, parents are always looking for extra help. If you already know someone with children ask them. I would recommend you get cpr certified, parents like that. Also, dress like a responsible dork, not the cool kid you really are. Good Luck on makin that mula!

You may also look out for an option to work online to make extra cash in your spare time. I am a part time worker doing work online at home, so I would like to share a link where you can make $600-$1500 in a month working at home. The work need to be done is posting/answering a discussion and uploading any photo/image of your interest. For details visit
http://ommc.blogspot.com
I will publish few more genuine site in couple of weeks, where you can earn money. You may also write to me at talkofmoney@rediffmail.com (Note: When u are planning for a home based online work, be careful because most of them are scam and ask you to pay initial money. never pay money to any such site.)

you can make at least 7 an hour.
i'd take a babysitting class and get certified in CPR.
i'd go to craigslist.com..

thats how i got my job. And i've earned around 1500, since July.
(although, i'm 16. ANd could get a job, i still chose babysitting)

about 99% of the places require you to be 16. The places you should try are small mom and pop stores. They may give you a chance.

you sound more like you want money, that is a good thing it means you are ambitious but at 13 you need to be worrying about school. that way you can work towards your goal
