Sometimes when I look at the radar online, I see big spots of speckled red, weather is to be clear?

There is no bad weather coming, none has passed, but I see specks of red on the radar.

Weather radar not only reflects off raindrops in cloud. It also reflects off buildings, trees, hills, power pylons etc. These are called Permanent Eches or PE. Most weather radars have a computer program atached to them that suppresses PE, otherwise the screen gets very cluttered, but occasionally PE will break through.

Another false echo is what is called Anomalous Propagation or AP. The radar beam will sometimes reflect off temperature inversions producing some odd echoes.

If you are unsure about an echo, run a loop of the last few images. If the echo stays in the one spot, it is PE. If it comes and goes or dodges around, it is probably AP. If it moves in a consistent direction, it is probably rain.

Radar gives echoes of the precipitation sometimes upto 500 Kms from the place where the radar is located provided the the height of the cloud which gives the precipitation is sufficiently more.At that time you may not see any cloud overhead as the cloud is 500 Kms away and there may not be any bad weather at your place .At the same time the bad weather will be occuring 500 Kms away which the radar may be showing as spots.Sometimes due to Anomalous propagation,
radar rays are bent and an island 1000 Kms away will reflect the bent rays and it will be shown as if some weather echo(spot) is present at about 500 Kms away.
