I'm curious who decides who wins an Oscar.

All the trades make up the academy. Sound, Graphics, Costumers, Scenic, animators, Makeup Composers and Music,Directors, Cinematographers, Film Editors, Sound Editors, etc. And last, but not least, Actors. Too many disciplines to mention, but each trade votes within his trade, except each trade voting member (not everyone is a voting member) votes for Best Movie and major nominees. In order to be a member, you must be within these trades and join the Academy membership.

The academy has different branches, like acting, directing, screenwriting, etc... I think once you get a nomination you are invited to join the academy. If you win an Oscar you are automatically admitted as a member. I believe all academy members vote in all categories. It's not actors for actors,etc...

ive heard its ballots sent around to members of the screen actors guild...

but i still think monkeys must have taken over in 2000
