Okay, so if my friend bought a pillow and I ripped the tags off, does this mean that I could be punished because I am not the consumer of this pillow?

From the momento that your friend , took the pillow out the store, she or anyone that she choose, can set on fire if she wanto to.

Depends on how good of a friend you have! I would turn you over to the FBI. To many people breaking to many laws.
