I noticed when I watch the radar on my computer that even if it's raining hard outside there isn't anything showing on the computer.

Being the webmaster for many years, I find the most common solution to a problem like this is to just refresh or reload the web page. This will force the web browser to look for the latest image from the internet. An old image or group of images may still be in your cache memory and your computer may be set to look in the cache for an old picture. This option setting is done so that you can surf web much faster. I would say that will fix the problem about 60 percent of the time when I get a complaint from a user. Try it the next time this happens and see if it works.

It depends where the radar is and the angle the beam is pointing. The earth is curved but radar beams go in straight lines. The further you are from the radar, the higher into the cloud you are looking. It is possible that the radar is looking over the top of the cloud and seeing nothing.

Another possibility is that you are in a shadow. If there is, for instance, a hill or a large water tower between you and the radar, the beam might be reflected back by the hill leaving no radar beam to reach the rain over you. The same thing happens if there is heavy rain between you and the radar, the signal is attenuated by the rain closer in and the radar doesn't see you.

All weather watch radars reflect off rain, not just Dopplers. The wavelength of weather watch radars is 5cm to 10cm.

living in colorado im used to this happening alot, its most frequently a new rainstorm that has developed and radars usually are delayed 20 minutes or so. so you could be hit and drying off before it shows the rain on the radar a few miles away. also light drizzle or condensed small areas of heavy rain are usually overlooked.
