You have to find factors of the first and last that will equal the middle, then its just trial and error. This is how they got 2 and 3.

1.) well the answer is (3x-2)(x+4)
you have to defoil the question
1. (3x )(x ) you know this is the first part of the trinomial bc 3x times x = 3x^2 This is the F in FOIL (first). you multiply the first things in each parenthesis.

2. now you need to figure out what multiplys to get -8 and when put in the equation right adds up to 10 we know that -2 and 4 multiply to get -8 now we just have to see if put in the equation correctly will it work.

3. (3x-2)(x+4)
First 3x times x = 3x^2
Outer 3x times 4 = 12x
Inner -2 times x = -2x
Last -2 times 4 = -8

Now combine and it will get you back to your answer
3x^2+10x-8
