if we let vector pointing to north a positive, then
the vector pointing south is negative...

A = (+) 3.43
B = (+) 9.45

(a) A-B = (+) 3.43 - (+) 9.45
= (-) 6.02 ...since it's negative it must be pointing south

ANSWER 6.02 km SOUTH

(b) B - A = (+) 9.45 - (+) 3.43
= (+) 6.02 ...since positive it must be pointing north

ANSWER: 6.02 NORTH

Alright, the first question asks for the M and D of A-B. Which is to say, Vector A minus Vector B. Placing them side by side, We subtract 9.45 km from 3.43 km ( a diagram helps a lot here) and get a numerical value of -6.02km. Because it is a negative value, the direction is to the south, so your answer is 6.02 km to the South.

for part B, you do the sam procedure, except subtract A from B, or 9.45-3.43km, giving us a value of 6.02. Since its positive, it is to the north or the original direction of the vectors.

Drawing a diagram helps a lot, draw a dot as the starting point, and then for part A draw vector A going to the north, and because you are subtracting vector B, draw vector B going to the south. Make sure its to scale, and vector B is longer than that of vector A, you can see that the overall direction is to the south.

First I need to convert vector A into a vector like ( 0, 3.43) and B as (0, 9.45) Then I just add or subtract the vectors. This form is (x, y) so if x is 0 then then the vector is pointing along the y axis. I am assuming that positive y is North and negative y is South.

Since they are pointing in the same direction just subtract.

A - B = 3.43 - 9.45 = -6.02 km north = +6.02 km south

B - A = 9.45 - 3.43 = 6.02 km north

A-B go north 3.43 then south 9.45km (the "negative" of due north is due south). 3.43-9.45=-6.02 km (since the sign is negative, this is due south).

B-A go north 9.45 then south 3.43km (the "negative" of due north is due south). 9.45-3.43=6.02 km (this is north).
