I'm not sure, but this is a very good question! My dog is obese, and she thinks she's a 'skinny-mini'!! I think sometimes she notices that she can't jump on the bed or couch as much, and she gets aggravted, maybe she knows, maybe she doesn't!

I don't think they thnk in those terms. They seem to take pride in doing whatever they want, although if their owners are not careful, it can cause health problems for the pet.
