Ok.

I have a 1999 Chrysler Town & Country LX Minivan.

We've had it for a few years with lil problem.

BUT

Last summer something went wrong.

You put it in drive and you go, it doesnt shift outta low gear.

You can still drive it and everything works ok (lights, radio, brakes, etc)

And you can still go in reverse.

It's STILL in the garage. They've been working on it since July.

They've checked everything. They've sent it out to tons of other places. But they can't seem to figure out whats wrong with it.

Whats wrong with it? How do I fix it?

PLEASE HELP!

Thanks!

You might need a new transmission....or Drive train...or even the "pumpkin" (in between rear wheels on axle) might need work if its rear wheel drive transmission, the transmission is where the gears are.....be prepared to get another vehicle...if they can't find the parts you need. You also might need to find another mechanic...sounds as though the one(s) you've gone to are really nothing much for they've been stuck with this issue since summer!!!
That's absurdity...sorry about your luck with that van...good luck.

Sounds like it's stuck in limp in mode. I don't know what the shop where u have it at has done. But I know That if it where me. I would check for codes in trans tcm. If u have 51,52, 54, 56, and probably a few others. I would check my input and output readings. Those are input and output sensor failure codes. Also they will be accompanied by other codes such as gear ratio error in, First, second, third ect. ect.ect. I would Erase all codes after writing them down. Road test with scanner see if i am getting a output sensor reading or not. If u don't want to go that far. Just replace both sensors.

I had a Chrysler LeBaron and had the same problem. I'm not really sure what was wrong with it, but it had to do with something by the front driver's side tire. There was some kind of tube that was pinched. I know this doesn't help you all that much, but it might a little.

My advice would be to get it to another garage. If you've had it in this one since July, they should have had plenty of time. It will either be electrical (changes the trans. gear) or mechanical, and that could be anything within the trans.

Sounds like your transmission is burnt out. Possibly a new torque converter and a tranny flush could be something to look at. Another issue could be a vent tube that's plugged, which is what speedy_me18 is referring to.

the trans is in limp mode now
need more info on what has been done to it
is it at Chrysler garage? or or independent?

Sounds like the transmission is bad....but that is probably one of the first things they checked I would imagine.

Sounds like something wrong with the computer.

I will say this, Chrysler are notorious about their electrical systems. That's where I would be looking.
