Ok.

I have a 1999 Chrysler Town & Country LX Minivan.

We've had it for a few years with lil problem.

BUT

Last summer something went wrong.

You put it in drive and you go, it doesnt shift outta low gear.

You can still drive it and everything works ok (lights, radio, brakes, etc)

And you can still go in reverse.

It's STILL in the garage. They've been working on it since July.

They've checked everything. They've sent it out to tons of other places. But they can't seem to figure out whats wrong with it.

Whats wrong with it? How do I fix it?

PLEASE HELP!

Thanks!

have them check the computer my ram truck did the same thing and a scan didn't say anything was wrong.. but i swapped computers from the junk yard and it works fine now.. the junkyard computer only cost me 40 dollars so its worth the chance to try it.I'm sure they checked the tranny and vacuum lines etc.. that only leaves the control module, body computer and engine control computer.. don't buy them new until you try the junkyard stuff first because you cant return computers to the parts store.

The chrysler transmissions (atleast the older ones) had something called LIMP mode - this enabled the car to be driven on lower gears once there was a transmission problem so that the people could get home safely. am guessing thats what is wrong... the transmission probably needs a replacing - and chrysler transmissions are not the best

hope that helps

There are 3 main parts in the transmission that could go wrong, I had my transmission serviced, 2003 Durango... and the tranmission expert, who has been doing trans for 40 years, said a pressure regulator is known to fail in dodges transmissions.... so they have been working on it since july? Are they blindfolded and have their hands tied behind their backs? It should only take a couple days to diagnose and fix it. Take it to a transmission shop, you will have it back in a couple days.

The only thing you can try yourself before you take it in to have your transmission rebuilt is have the filter changed.Make sure the engine is warmed up to operating temperature and be sure it drains as much of the fluid out as possible. If this helps at all do it again. If not, off to the transmission shop.

first did your battery go dead at any time during this? a overlooked problem is a simple relearn procedure for the trans. i would recommend taking this to a service center and have a scan ran on it first and then the relearn can be done at the same time.

if you took it to a garage and thay have it that long thay don't know what there doing,,, Most likely it is the valve-body in the trains,,, its plug up
don't let a bunch or dumb mules work on it,, there keeping it so you will have to pay a big storage on it find some one that knows what there doing

It sounds like your repair place is the problem. Just off hand I would say you need to take it to a transmission place.

You should contact Chrysler and get one of their guys involved...I'm not talking the dealership, I'm talking someone straight from the manufacturer.
