Yes, I believe it is, at least it was a generation or so ago. Now, however, boys' names have taken a more modern twist, such as Tyler, Hunter, Ryan, etc., which are actually surnames. Catholics generally name their kids after saints, and St. John must have been quite popular.

Foreign equivalents of John are prominent in other countries; for example, Juan in Spain or Mexico, Jean in France, Sean (pronounced Shawn) in Ireland -- there are probably others. But traditionally, John remains the most common in the U.S.

I think so. The most common name in the WORLD is Mohammed. But I think in the US it is John.
