There was a movie years ago set in the slums of India called 'City of Hope'.
A brilliant documentary called 'Born into Brothels' is worth watching. It follows kids of prostitutes in Calcutta. A photographer woman comes in and gives the kids cameras to capture their world, and it gives them fresh hope and perspective, but it is pretty heartbreaking as so much is stacked against the kids (esp the girls) breaking the cycle.

if you watch "Catch a Fire" it shows the poverty and malnutrition of South Africa. Constant Gardner is another one that shows Illness and Epidemics in North Africa. They may not be ABOUT aids or poverty, but they are CLEARLY visable in these movies.
