Depends on how good of a friend. If all flowers are red, that usually means you are in love with them. I find that a mix of colors are great for a friend. Anything but all red is good.

Doesn't really matter. But sending a mixture of colors is very thoughtful.
Red and pink is more a color for Valentines day so be thoughtful when you choose the flower colors.

White and yellow roses are traditionally viewed as the right flowers to express platonic love, or love for your friends. Do a Google search for "proper flowers to send" and you should find some results that'll help you answer your question.

Traditionally yellow symbolises friendship.
If you're worried about it being interpreted incorrectly, why not send them a mix of colours?
