I would have to say no, but since it was in a work related setting it may be alright. We all know that the world is becoming a more technologically advanced place, but nothing will ever beat human compassion.
When you write a note- even if it is a few sentences, it really shows that person that you really did want to thank them. It shows that you value the meeting. It is kind of like after you have an interview to a prospective employer. You wouldnt want to send them an email. It just isnt personable enough.
Now here is the clencher. You met these people to build your resources, so it may be alright saying it was great seeing them, you are glad to have had the chance to meet them and will be keeping them as a reference for future endeavors. Wishing them the best and whatnot is also a plus.
If you do choose to send the email to that person, then make sure to note where and when you met them. Also dont send it to multiple people- make each note unique.
Hope that helped!

No. That would make you sound desperate as hell! That happened to me. Once, i went all out for a job that i lobbied so hard to get. This would've helped me out in ways you couldn't imagine! I would've stayed where i was and i wouldn't have had to come back to the place i started from just to make it happen. Anyway, i had a job interview with the Hertz Corporation for a Management Trainee. Got dressed in my finest shirt and tie and went to the interview. Looked the interviewer in the eye all the time, smiled, and answered all questions. I let them know what i could bring to the table and they let me know what they expected. Afterwards, i thanked the lady for her time and left with a feeling of happiness. I sent her a thank-you e-mail one day later. Three days later, i get a letter in the mailbox. It was one of those "Thank you for your interest, but....." kind of letters. This devastated me, hurt me, and no matter how cordial i was, i still didn't get the job. The approach i take now is this: Unless i get the job, then i will send a thank-you letter then. There's no use of saying thank you in your way when they say thank you in their way by rejecting you and driving a stake through your heart! That's just something to think about.

A thank you of any kind is better than nothing. It's always impressive to send a thank you card, especially one of the embossed ones. But in this age of electronics, it has become totally acceptable to send a thank you note by e-mail and btw attach your contact card so they can drop it in their Outlook Contacts. (The tackiest e-mail invitation I have ever received was a wedding invitation.)

Yes. Be sure, however, that you give it a title that doesn't look like spam, or it will never be read.
If you met someone who you really liked and could help you with your career goals, it always looks better to send a handwritten note.

I think it's ok if it's work related... but any personal event should be down with a notecard and mailing.
