I don't know how much you can find out about any secret society, especially here. Those who know the answer are part of the society and won't answer you, while those who do answer you probably know next to nothing about the true working of the society. One thing I think you may misunderstand about the Skull and Bones is powerful people are not those allowed to join. Normally it is the sons of powerful people. For example, I understand, President Bush was initiated while he was in college. Well before he was elected to the Presidency. If I misread, or misunderstood your question I apologize. I think these groups are, more or less, mutual aid groups, "I'll use my influence to get you a high level job at the NYSE, and you do what you can to help me get elected Governor". That is only a guess on my part but experience indicates the Masons do things along that line and so do the Knights of Columbus, in fact the KC protected an incompetent I tried to fire once in my career. I do think the workings of secret societies are, more often than not, innocent. The idea that they maintain an aura of secrecy seems to lead some to believe they are some sort of evil. They can evolve to that point, witness the KKK, but even with the KKK, it is a small portion of the leadership that is actually whacko. Most members are nothing more than noisy racists who have never hurt anyone and probably never will. The small local hate groups with no affiliation, those numbering 10 to 50 are more likely to do something considered especially heinous. Good luck on your search, I think I will keep an eye on this one just to see what happens.
