What should he have done. Play a basic 4-4-2 or stick to the one he laid out? Replace Giggs with Park....etc etc

People talked earlier in the year about Gerrard being forced out wide because of injuries. A lot of people really sympathized with him.

Rooney is being forced to play outwide as well. Giggs flows into the center of the park and Rooney is force out wide. It fustrates him, means he isn't reaching his full potential on the pitch.

The 4-5-1 system isn't the system that United plays, yet Fergie seems to persist with it. Why? I am not sure.

The prime example is the Benfica game. When we played the 451, we had losts of possession, but Benfica went 1 up. As soon as we went back to the 442, we devastated them.

The 451 system is what other teams exile at. Fergie needs to stop trying to adapt to the game others play and start playing the game United plays, and force the other team to adapt.

That being said, Rooney was more effective when he found a chance to float into the center. He wasn't brilliant today, but he was effective. We need the 442, we need Saha back starting (Larsson has been great, but I still think he would be such a great option off the bench, like Ole), and we need to get back to our play.

Anyway, I guess the message is 442 FFS!

The problem was not in formation or tactics. Arsenal stepped it up a notch and Man U didn't follow suit.

I don't see Man U making that mistake again soon. They are too good in every aspect of the game.
