Unfortunately, I did go to a private school. I hated going there! It was always way too sheltered. The only pro was that we were 2 years advanced than other kids in our grade level. Everything else was horrible! Hypocrits really killed it for me. After 7 years of being in a private school, I finally went to a public school and it was the hardest transition I've ever had. I already learned all of the material from 7th and 8th grade, so I would goof around and get really bored in class. It caused me to lose interest in academics for a while. I also couldn't fit in very well because I didn't know anybody in my classes and they thought it was weird that I was very proper and didn't like breaking any rules. My suggestion, if you're going to send a kid to a private school, make sure they like it and keep them in a private school for all of their academic years. If not, they will be having a hard time in life. I did get into a university and I had incredible discipline also, that's another pro. It's just that book smarts aren't always everything in today's world/society.

Went for a year to avoid 2nd year of forced busing in early 70's. It was okay, although the pamphlet was misleading (there were no students of color despite the photos on the cover) and the principal was later prosecuted for embezzlement. Student body was a bunch of rich or upper middle-class white kids just like the ones in "The Ice Storm" movie. A lot of brighter-than-average kids. Although the principal was a Christian (ironically re later conviction) it was not a church-y school. The setting was in the woods, very pretty, especially at recess.

I had a kind of hard time because I was beginning to come out (at 14) and the staff just wasn't prepared for that kind of situation. But better there than the horrible inner-city school my friends were forced to attend. Even when I went back to public school the next year, all the black kids hung out together at our local junior high and later senior high. There was very little race-mixing outside of the jocks, the rockers (like me), and some of the Christian kids.

I think that's why I've always had cool black female friends, so something good came out of it. ;)

I got to public school i find that it allows more choice in classes and more extra curricular and it's free but private school doesn't have to abide as many laws and usually have a great foreign language department because they can teach in that language. a child will be more sheltered in a private school but if they are parented right it won't make a difference in they go to public school also most private schools don't have as much help for special needs. If your worried about drugs and violence you will probaly have more drugs and partying in private school and more violence in public. It all depends on how the child is raised

Went to Private school my whole life. Pros good education, smaller classes with more attention, less pressure from other students from clothing or appearance we all wore uniforms. Not as easy for us to stray from schoolwork. Cons, I thought I had less freedom at the time but better for me because it kept me in line.

I attended Catholic School until College. I truly beilieved it help shape the way I am today. I am a very good person, and the values instilled in school remain with me . I happened to have loved Catholic School. I would have never been able to make it in public school because I was not a typical, rebellious teenager. I liked to behave.

My parents had to take me out of two different private schools because they all acted stuck up and like they knew everything, and the teachers didn't really like me because i asked a lot of questions. So now my parents are just homeschooling me, i am going to go to precollege next school year.
