Ok, an acquaintance of mine ( i wouldnt call him a friend) claims that he saw on TV that a bullet wont penetrate a silk shirt. He gets bent out of shape if you disagree with him. Should i prove to him he is wrong? Just kidding on that part. But who else thinks this is true? I dont.

Only thing i can figure out (and this is just a guess) is maybe he saw a demonstration on TV where they hung a silk shirt on a clothesline and shot it with a gun. Since there is nothing in back of the shirt to hold it firm the momentum of the bullet "might" brush the shirt upwards, as it pushed against it. thus not damaging or penetrating the shirt. Just a wild guess. I dont really know what gave him this idea. I asked him, if this is so why doesnt cops and soldiers wear silk shirts. He said because they are stupid.
I just get a kick out of listening to those types, i dont believe them-they are just good for a laugh is all.

i definitely think that your friend is full of crap....i mean maybe if it was hanging the bullet might force the shirt up and not go through it, but if the shirt was on a person it would go straight through it and right into the person

Yes, if the silt skirt is on the back of a moving object moving slightly slower than the bullet, the bullet would be in contact with the skirt but wouldn't penetrate it.

But if the skirt's in motion, ... hell no.

if a silk shirt can't be penetrated by a bullet, wouldn't cops just wear silk uniforms rather than bulky bullet proof vests?? makes no sense.

Your friend is full of it...it's neither true, nor did he see it on TV.
You don't have to disagree with him, just ignore the statement if you know he's wrong.

Of course. That is why all the police forces wear them.

No; sorry. Not true.
